Another thing to bear in mind is that just because we are unable to find an EPD that has a similar GWP result as our ‘industry average’ GWP doesn’t mean that that product doesn’t exist – it just means that not all producers have EPDs for their products.
For steel, that may explain why the industry average steel (which includes imports from producers that may have more efficient facilities but no EPD) has lower impacts than the EPDs that are available.
Therefore, do bear in mind that the intention behind comparing industry average data with EPDs is to drive more demand for producers to get EPDs for their products to demonstrate their competitive edge.
