CO2e Impact for ‘Electricity from Genset’

  • The CO2e impact for diesel is approximately 2.8255kgCO2/L of diesel however in eToolLCD this figure is about 3.5 times higher at about 9.9kgCO2e (based on NSW v14 grids). Is there an explanation for this?

Turns out that generator efficiency can significantly affect the GWP impact for diesel generators. The graph here illustrates the range of efficiencies for different sized generators at different loads.

There’s now feature request to have these assumptions declared as a pop-up note in the software. If you think this is a good idea, please vote for it here.

Also, note that the energy source is described as ‘Electricity from diesel genset’ NOT ‘litres of diesel consumed by genset’ therefore please note the required input.
