Motivation (why we need this feature): Project teams may use different BIM software products, which may involve time consuming conversion if an organisation is tied to a particular product. Being restricted to a single vendor may result in the vendor opting to change its format, removing features, functionality or data fields or types that an organisation currently relies on. An open and documented data format (e.g. IFC) allows for data exchange and the ability to import data easily., Which regions need the feature?: Global, Which projects types does the feature support?: Buildings, Infrastructure, Fit Outs, Landscaping, Which ratings systems require the feature?: Potentially all if there is an BIM model for the project.,
As a user, rather than using proprietary product(s) from a particular company (Autodesk), I would like to be given the option to import data in Industry Foundation Classes (IFC).
